A city-dweller teacher is transferred to a tiny, isolated Kurdish village located somewhere in the mountains of southeast Turkey. The world of the locals brought up in harsh circumstances, making them apparently insensitive to everything but survival, is very far from the world the teacher grew up in, but as the days, then weeks, progress he gradually begins to understand them. Daily life in the village consists of patience, curiosity and the inexorable rhythm of life, all set in the indifferent embrace of nature. Erden Kiral’s film is a moving work in which frames without voiceover or narrative – snow-capped mountain peaks, the dispassionate faces of children – speak volumes.
