Woody Allen retrospective

1 december 2015 - 9 february 2016

Location: Díszterem

One of the world’s best writers and directors was born in Brooklyn, on December 1, 1935. The director who has the ability to talk about the most important things in life with such irony and joyful spirit like no one else – no matter if it’s identity, attraction, past, sins, gods and humans, creation or all the distress surrounding these.

Happy Birthday, Woody Allen! On this occasion five of his incredibly rich masterpieces will return to big screen on 35mm. The event will commence at 7pm on December 1 with, of course, Annie Hall (1977) which has just recently been voted by the Writers Guild of America, as the funniest screenplay of all time. On the following couple of weeks four other films will be available for the audience: Manhattan (1979) on December 16, Hannah and Her Sisters (1986) on January 12, Curse of Jade Scorpion (2001) on January 26, and Hollywood Ending (2002) on February 9.

The retrospective event will bring back the director’s favourite’s themes, - love and criminal complications, creative crisis, deep self-examination – and his most important fellow creative and acting partners will re-appear as well. The first two titles will be projected with the legendary dubbing of Andras Kern who is Woody Allen’s Hungarian voice, while the other three will be screened in original language with subtitles.
